Our Family Celebrates Valentine’s Day Together
We celebrate Valentine’s Day to provide an opportunity to express our love to our sweethearts, children, parents and loved ones. Do share in the love with your whole family as you get involved in the upcoming Valentine’s Day celebration.
Ideas For Kids
Keep the kids busy! They can make some very unique Valentines. Just give them some construction paper, markers, glitter, candy and cookie cutters and they’ll go to town on those Valentines.
They can also help with baking some treats for the big celebration. Cookies, brownies, cakes and cupcakes are delicious. For those who are more adventurous, you can visit a candy supply store and make your own special recipe of chocolate confections to give as gifts to your friends and loved ones.
Getting Your Spouse Involved
Find ways to involve your spouse in the Valentine’s Day celebration. Be creative and do something fun together. Moms and Dads are super busy these days so get a babysitter and go have some fun together.
Don’t Forget The Grandparents
Plan for your Valentine’s Day celebration to include your parents and grandparents too. If your children no longer live at home then make sure everyone gets to speak on the phone and take some cell phone pictures and send them to each other. If your grandparents don’t have a cell phone that has a digital camera, which is pretty standard these days, buy them one as a gift.
Involve Your Neighborhood
Consider going public with your Valentine’s Day celebration. This doesn’t mean riding around in a car with a loudspeaker on the roof making announcements as you drive. I guess it depends on where you live. If you reside in a rural area, then gathering the neighbors together to celebrate might be enjoyable. Of course if you don’t get along with your neighbors, I would scrap this idea.
You can decide to celebrate either informally or formally or even a combination of both. What do you think? Black tie dinner at KFC? You don’t need cloth napkins, paper is fine. Just take a few extra the next time you stop by McDonalds for some good fries.
And let’s not rule out the possibility of really wearing a suit and tie to throw a Valentine’s bash.
So go decorate your block or your house. Just put up a few streamers, make the invitations and keep the chocolate available. Invite the whole neighborhood if your house can hold them. Hey that works really well in New York City!
Hey, just have fun. That’s what the day’s about.
So in conclusion, however large or small you make your Valentine’s Day celebration, keep the essence of the holiday, love, family and fun, at the center of your preparations. And If all the hoopla becomes to stressful, just change your plans and have a quiet, intimate family dinner by candlelight.
Enjoy your day.
